Museum of Information Technology at Arlington Coupons, Savings and Museum Description for 2021
This project started at the University of Texas Arlington in the College of Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. For a few years we accumulated material and documented it. We received the generous loan of a set of 8 vitrines from the Origins Project that allowed us to set up a series of displays that occasionally enlightened some of the students by displaying items that were older than they were with explanatory notes about the history of the items.
Eventually the collection grew to the point that the College and the Department began to feel that they could no longer support the effort, so we began the process of turning our project into a separate entity. We began by establishing a non-profit corporation. We received our charter from the State of Texas in August of 2007. In February of 2008 we were granted approval from the United States Internal Revenue Serviceas an exempt organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Code effective as of the August 2007 date.
Initially we were known as the Arlington Museum of Information Technology. In May of 2009 we changed to name to emphasize the wider scope of interest the Museum has for the state of Texas.
Based on this effort the Origins Project has transferred the loan of the vitrines to MITA. We have deployed the vitrines to other locations, though we will maintain displays in existing display cases in The Nedderman Hall Engineering Building at UTA. On our future plans page we have more information about our strategic plan.
MITA is an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit scientific and educational corporation.
